Turbojav is a brand of track and field equipment that was developed by Tom Petranoff. Tom is a former world men’s javelin throw record holder. The Turbojav, a throwing implement, aims to cultivate proper throwing technique. The Turbojav is utilized by USA Track and Field (USATF), the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), and the State Games of America (SGA).
Youths 10 and under will use the Turbojav in the USATF and SGA Mini Javelin events. AAU also uses the Turbojav in the Turbo Javelin event. The Turbojav serves as an excellent tool for imparting the fundamental principles and mechanics of javelin throwing. The Turbojav is also ideal for more advanced athletes. Use it as a training implement to improve their accuracy and technique. Made of plastic with a soft, nonmarking nose, which allows it to also be thrown indoors.
Turbojavs come in various weights, from 300 grams to 600 grams. Elementary schools, primary schools, and Special Olympics use 300/400g. Middle schools and some high schools use 500 and 600g. The 700g and 800g are for high schools, colleges, masters, elite, and Unified Sports. Each Turbojav comes in various vibrant colors. Furthermore, it breaks down into pieces for easy transportation.
TURBOJAV 300 (SKU TJ300)
The 300g is the lightest-weighted Turbojav; it weighs 300 grams and is 28” long. This is the official weight in USATF Junior Olympics and SGA 7-8 and 9-10-year-old age divisions. As well as the official weight of the AAU 8-and-under-age division. High school athletes of all ages use the 300g to practice, as it is lighter and less demanding on the arm and elbow. This weight allows for target practice to gain the basic skills needed to throw far. The lighter weight allows for speed training as well as learning about “the whip.” The 300g is where athletes start the basics and then work their way up to the 600g and 700g TurboJavelins. TURBOJAV 400 (SKU TJ400)
The 400g Turbojav weighs 400 grams and is 28” long. This is the official weight in AAU Junior Olympics 9-10 and 11-12-year-old age divisions. Furthermore, this is the official weight at the European club level. It is a fantastic product to train with as you get stronger and need more weight. Measures: 28", Diameter: 1.5"
TURBOJAV 500 (SKU TJ500)
The 500g Turbojav weighs 500 grams and is 42” long. The USA, Canadian middle schools, and South African primary schools use this weighted Turbojav. As well as the Peru secondary school athletes. As the length starts to increase, the difficulty of the throw increases as well. Start with this great tool before introducing yourself to the TurboJavelins and real Javelins. TURBOJAV 600 (SKU TJ600)
The 600g Turbojav weighs 600 grams, like the real women's javelin, and comes in either 42” or 72” in length. Although this is not the same length as the women's javelin, it will fly the same distance, if not further. Training with the 600g will help teach the athlete before they move on to the real women's javelin. Measures: 42", Diameter: 1.5"
TURBOJAVELIN 700 (SKU TJ700)
The 700g Turbojav weighs 700 grams and is 72” long. This TurboJavelin is between the weight of the men's and women's javelins. This is a fantastic product for women to use for heavier throwing while training. The TurboJavelin is harder to throw, as you must throw through the point. This Turbo Javelin will correct athletes' form. It does this by not flying far when they throw incorrectly. The Turbo Javelin will wobble if the athlete fails to throw it in a straight line. Alternatively, they may misdirect their power when throwing. It is a useful corrective tool. Measures: 78", Diameter: 1.5"
TURBOJAVELIN 800 (SKU TJ800)
The 800g Turbojav weighs 800 grams, like the real men's javelin, and is 72” long. This Turbo Javelin is a powerful training tool for women to use as a heavy implement. This makes the 600g weight feel much lighter for women when they throw. Men use this as a training tool to learn to throw through the point and not around their center of gravity. This Turbo Javelin will correct athletes' form. It achieves this by not traveling far when an athlete throws incorrectly. The Turbo Javelin will wobble if the athlete cannot throw through the point.
